Second day in Atlanta

Wow, what an amazing second day in Atlanta! I can’t believe that so many amazing and inspiring places are down here in the hot south as well as the people. They sure do have some southern hospitality. Yesterday we had visited three different locations. We had visited an organization called CARE, the MLK center, and the coca-cola museum.

CARE was a truly heart touching experience for all of us. When we had got in we had spoken with a young lady named Ms. Joyce. She was born and raised in Kenya and then she came into the United States when she was attending college. She had joined care a couple of years later after she graduated college because she wanted to make a difference in the world based on where she came from. She spoke to us about how her living conditions were back in Africa. It was harsh! The government chose basically everything for the people. Their education, who they married, and so on. She was a hardworking child growing up because she knew that she wanted to be successful in life. After meeting with Ms. Joyce, we had met with the CEO and President of care Dr. Helene Gayle. Dr. Helene gave us great advice about what we should if we want to be successful and not just have an average life but an over the top one.

After visiting CARE, we had visited the MLK center. The MLK center is exactly right down the street from where Dr. Martin Luther King lived himself and right around the corner from the church where he and his father preached at every Sunday. The MLK center was one of my favorite parts of the day because we had actually learned a little more about MLK than what we actually knew. I always enjoy learning about my history because it shows how these activists back in the days such as Rosa Parks, MLK, Sojourner Truth, and many more paved a way for us African Americans to be free and do what we want to do instead of being forced to do things by horrible people. I even enjoyed the waterfalls right outside of the center. It was beautiful and Dr. Martin Luther King jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King lie right in front of the beautiful MLK center. Literally their tomb stones are placed in the waterfalls. What an amazing time we had.

Lastly but most definitely not the least we had visited the Coco-Cola museum that is right next to the Georgia Aquarium. That museum is out of this world. It was so creative. We went into vaults, we saw different fun and exciting clippings of different commercials of Coca- Cola, and we even tasted 60 different sodas from at least 8 different countries! We were not thirsty any more after drinking all that great soda! The second day of Atlanta really related to the three C’s of Youth Trek. Which are culture, community, and career. What a great second day in Atlanta! I can’t wait to see what is in store for us tomorrow.

Love, Camra
